EPFO and IPPB Collaborate to Offer Free Doorstep Digital Life Certificates

In a groundbreaking decision to ease the lives of elderly people, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) officially announced their alliance in late 2025 and early 2026, which was on the way to giving pensioners at their homes. With the backing of this project, millions of retirees under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995 (EPS-95), are now able to furnish their yearly life certificates right from the comfort of their homes.

Digital Life Certificate Submission Through Postal Network

At the heart of this partnership lies the unrestricted issuance of the Digital Life Certificate (DLC), popularly known as Jeevan Pramaan. By taking advantage of the vast network of 1.65 lakh post offices and 3 lakh postal employees of IPPB, the service can provide cutting-edge biometric technology right at the doorstep of the retiree. Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) are armed with handheld devices that do Aadhaar-based biometric authentication, including fingerprint and face recognition, to verify the pensioner’s identity on the spot.

Free of Cost Service for Senior Citizens

One of the significant advantages attached to this new contract is the lifting of financial hindrances for the elderly. Though door-to-door banking services are charged, the EPFO will take full responsibility for the issuance of the DLC for its pensioners. Making the service absolutely free of cost for EPS-95 retirees is a very significant relief for those living in rural or remote areas where getting to a bank branch or EPFO office can be draining both physically and financially.

Centralised Systems Improve Living Standards

This project is one of the most significant elements of the government’s Ease of Living ambition and the Digital India initiative. The Centralised Pension Payment System (CPPS) connectivity makes it possible for pensions to be paid without any interruptions through real-time submissions of life certificates. After the biometric verification is done successfully, an SMS is sent to the retiree, and the certificate is updated on the national Jeevan Pramaan portal by the next day, thereby completely removing the chance of any delays related to paper-based processes.

Increasing Access for Rural Pensioners

The partnership is specifically aimed at the very end of Indian society. With super-senior citizens (who are 80 years and older) being able to start their submission as early as October each year, this door-to-door service eliminates the physical burden of waiting in lines. The postal service can be made through the Post Info app, toll-free number, or by just informing the local postman, which makes the Indian banking and pension systems among the most accessible and inclusive in the world.
